What is Bangla Shasya Bima yojana? বাংলা শস্য বীমা যোজনা কি?

Bangla shasya Bima yojana is a government scheme started in West Bengal where free crop insurance is provided to farmers on crop failure due to natural calamity, pests or diseases.

Objective

The objective of Bangla shasya Bima scheme are-

• This scheme aims to provide financial security to the farmers upon the destruction of their crops. In this way, it helps the farmer to not get burdened with the heavy loans, helps in providing food on the table.
• Bangla shasya Bima yojana will help mitigate agriculture risks. Even if the crops fail farmers won’t feel depressed but they’ll feel confident and will be able to take confident decisions.
• The objective of this scheme is to promote sustainable agriculture. The farmers will desire to enhance the use of technology, they’ll use more advanced tools, better seeds and fertilizers which are expensive, they’ll likely to invest more into crops because they’ll have a backup if the crops fails. This is one of the biggest factors in creating a better Agriculture output.
• The scheme is one of social welfare. Helping the farmers which are the backbone of the country will help them in getting relief from the financial burden they will get after the crop failure. Calamities, diseases, pests are things which can’t be controlled and government can help the farmer in tough times.
• When the farmer will feel secure he will invest more in his land that will automatically increase the output and agriculture productivity of the land. Developed countries like US have high agricultural productivity that is they get more yield on less land as compared to developing countries like India. It is solely because of better resources like fertilizers, seeds, nutrient rich soil, irrigation and technology that agriculture productivity can be increased.

• Applicant must be a resident of West Bengal.
• Applicant should be a farmer indulged in agriculture business.

Documents required 

• Name of block, village, mauza, Plot no., crop wise cultivated area
• KYC (voter id, aadhar card)
• Bank details (canceled cheque, copy of passbook)
• KCC card
• Land ownership
  • Land owner: Khatian, Deed, Parcha, Patta, copy
  • Non owner: land possession certificate issued by gram panchayat pradhan
• Area sown certificate issued by Assistant Director of Agriculture of the block or Revenue officer/ Revenue inspector of L&LR dept and R,R&R dept

How to apply online

To apply for Bangla Shasya Bima yojana, you have to visit the official website of banglashasyabima.net.

• On the homepage, check the menu and click on the application form. 
• Click on the application form and an image will download on your phone/PC.
• Print this form and fill in the details like name, father’s name, EPIC number, aadhar number, address, details of crops, bank details, etc.
• Attach the required documents like copy of passbook, copy of aadhaar, copy of land possession certificate etc, and sign the declaration in the end.
• Submit the application in the village level camps organized by IA or Block level offices of Agriculture Department before the start of each season.
• An acknowledgement receipt will be given to you with the acknowledgement number/ application id.

Application status check

To check the application status of your application you have to use the acknowledgement number or application id given to you after you have submitted your application.

1. Visit banglashasyabima.net and check the homepage.
2. Click on “Application Status” button and enter your application id on the next page.
3. Now you’ll be able to see your application status.

How to inform about crop loss?

When you experience crop failure you can inform about it to the insurance company through email or toll free number. You can also report about crop failure to the Assistant Director of Agriculture of the block.

Benefits

• 🔥Under this scheme, reimbursement under rabi season for potato will be given at 70% and for other crops it will be 90%.
• 🔥Under kharif season reimbursement will be provided for paddy at 80% and for maize at 90%.
• 🔥Under this scheme financial support is provided to farmers by giving insurance premium at the time of despair when they are dealing with crop damage.
• 🔥Faster settlement of claims through satellite data and collection through field analysis.
• 🔥With the help of crop insurance schemes like Bangla shasya Bima yojana, farmers can live their life without the risk of crop failure. Its a huge step in giving assurance to farmers of the support of the government in tough times.
• 🔥Benefit of the scheme is directly provided to the farmer in his bank account upon the inspection of his land. There’s no hassle in the process and because of the digitization of money tranfer, there is no corruption.
• 🔥The scheme provides free premium rate so all the farmers are eligible to afford it. There aren’t much conditions for the eligibility of this scheme. Any farmer who wants to get benefit of this scheme can join it.

Applicant can check the insurance coverage for their land by visiting the official website for Bangla shasya Bima yojana.

1. First go to banglashasyabima.net and come to the homepage.
2. Here click on Check insurance coverage.
3. Ok the next page, enter your Voter ID number, select the season and choose the year.
4. Then click on Check button to view the insurance coverage under the scheme.

The West Bengal government took the benefits of this scheme to 15.24 lakh farmers with ₹770 crore for farmers affected with heavy rainfall damaging their crops in 2022-23.
